![]() ![]() bhyve is nice but is developed by a small under-resourced group, as much as I hate to say that. ![]() Xen and KVM have the fragmented open source development model. Companies like Microsoft (Hyper-V) look at virtualization differently. Enterprises pay a princely sum for the product, so they are very well funded, and it's their big product. VMware's hypervisor technology has been around for at least a decade longer than bhyve. ESXi itself is an esoteric bit of technology, and you can paint yourself into a bad corner if you're not careful. Recoverability is one of the key things I've pushed for by emphasizing PCI passthru, which ESXi and most modern server boards support pretty well, but I'm going to say that the other big risk is lack of sufficient knowledge. It used to be worse because there were so many problems with the pre-Sandy Bridge hardware platforms people were trying to abuse, and because certain frequently promoted (at the time) strategies such as RDM-hackery for SATA would cause catastrophes. ![]()
